What Type of Party are you Planning?

Are you going to host a fancy black-tie event with mostly grown-ups? Or an informal, more casual family get-together? This is an excellent place to start when choosing party decor for the right atmosphere. If you are going more formal, black, silver and gold are colors that quickly come to mind. Keep the champagne flowing all night long with disco balls that glisten and confetti that sparkles. Jewel-toned balloons add a festive touch. Keep the night going with a photo booth that has a tinsel fringe backdrop and New Year’s props.  For food, passed hor d’oeuvres through the night keeps appetites satisfied without feeling full. Set up a champagne bar and set up a sparkly table with finger foods.

Going for a cozy, more intimate celebration with friends and family? Now is the perfect time to break out the board games and mix your favorite drink to share with loved ones. It is also a great time to start new traditions. For example, a memory jar. For food and drinks, dinner at the table is always appreciated. It offers time to share memories of old and resolutions for the following year. No need to go all out with decor. Keep your festive decor up through the new year. Purchase some hats and noisemakers and a few balloons and call it a night to remember!

What Colors to Use for New Year’s Decorations?

This is usually up to the host’s personal preference unless you are following a theme. Bright and glittery is usually expected at New Year’s celebrations. For larger parties, keep the crowd on their toes with multi-colored lights, music, and a dance floor if your space allows it. Multi-colored party streamers are another way to incorporate bright colors to ring in 2022. Many of these decorations can be purchased on Amazon or at your local party store.

For smaller gatherings, take advantage of items around your home. Re-use and decorate vases by spray painting them silver or gold. Garnish with garland and put a candle inside for a festive glow.  Repurpose garland and glue new years decor and lights on it. Lay across the dinner table as a table runner.

     Making your Home “Party Safe.”

As a responsible host, it is your job to keep your guests safe. No matter the size of the gathering it is good to have a plan to keep the evening cohesive and enjoyable. If you host at home and have animals, make sure they are kept away from the crowd with a bed, food, and water. You don’t want a guest to accidentally leave a door open and have your pooch go exploring. Keep certain rooms of the house off-limits. Make it very clear where the bathrooms are. If your guests had a little too much to drink, offer them a place to sleep, or get an Uber. You can ask if someone does not mind being a designated driver.  Or, encourage guests to Uber to the party so there is less chance of them driving, and it also makes parking easier for others. You should also serve responsibly, or simply just limit the number of guests you invite. When you keep your party safe, you keep it memorable.

What to do with the Kids?

If you are hosting an adult-only New Years’ bash, try to find a responsible parent to host a sleep-over for your kid(s). Return the favor when they need a sitter. If your kids have to stay at the house, let them have their own little party! Offer sleeping bags, tents, and games. Make up some finger foods and fun non-alcoholic drinks so they can also ring in 2022 in their own way.

We hope our New Years’ party ideas are helpful! Remember it’s your party in the end, and as long as your guests have fun and are appreciative, you will be remembered as the host with the most!
